Brandon State Rep. Steve Carr cited for DUI

BERLIN — State Rep. Steve Carr, D-Brandon, was cited for suspicion of driving under the influence last week in the town of Berlin after being stopped by local police.
According to a press release issued by the Berlin Police Department, Carr, 66, was pulled over on Thursday, Jan. 14, at 11 p.m. after committing “multiple traffic infractions” while driving along Route 62 in Berlin.
The officer who stopped Carr said he performed field sobriety tests on Carr, and then took Carr in to custody and cited him to answer the DUI charge in Washington Superior Court, criminal division, in Barre on Feb. 4.
The results of the field sobriety tests were not released.
Reached via email Tuesday night, Carr said he could not comment on the case at this time. Carr was also asked if he had a message for his constituents.
“I would like the voters to know that my work on their behalf will not be affected,” Carr replied.
Carr serves the towns of Brandon, Pittsford and Sudbury, along with Rep. Butch Shaw, R-Pittsford. Carr was elected in November 2012 after redistricting made Brandon a two-representative district and combined it with Pittsford and Sudbury.
Carr, who tallied 1,986 votes in that race, beat challenger Seth Hopkins, who had 1,185 votes.
Carr serves on the House Committee on Commerce and Economic Development. He lives in Brandon and works as a financial advisor and small business consultant. He previously served on both the Brandon selectboard and Zoning Board.
