Democratic presidential debate to be aired at Paramount, Castleton
RUTLAND — The Paramount Theater and Castleton University present a broadcast of the Jan. 17 Democratic Presidential Primary Debate as part of the 14-month series, Project 240: Celebrating the American Experience. The event on Sunday is at the Paramount Theater; doors open at 7:30 p.m., with the event to start at 8 p.m.
Hosted by Andy Smith, director of The Survey Center at the University of New Hampshire, the evening kicks off with introductory remarks and analysis by Smith, followed by a town hall-style question-and-answer period immediately before the presidential candidate debate commences at 9 p.m. Following the debate, Smith, who is also an associate professor of practice in political science at UNH, will stay and engage with the audience about the evening’s activity.
Audience members will watch the debate (which airs on NBC) live on the Paramount Theater’s HD large-screen projection system. The fourth Democratic Debate, sponsored by NBC and The Congressional Black Caucus Institute, will be broadcast from Charleston, S.C., and moderated by NBC new anchor Lester Holt.
This event, like all but two of the remaining 13, is free of charge and open to the public. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase from Roots the Restaurant.
