NEW HAVEN — The New Haven Conservation Commission welcomes Craig Newman to its Armchair Naturalist program on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m. Newman, co-founder and director of the Outreach For Earth Stewardship (OFES) based in Shelburne, will present “Raptors of Vermont” on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the New Haven Town Hall.
In this free program, attendees will learn about Vermont’s raptors: hawks, eagles, vultures, kites, owls, ospreys and falcons. Raptors, birds that hunt and feed on other animals, are characterized by keen vision that allows them to detect prey during flight and powerful talons and beaks.
A few wild guests will accompany Newman for this presentation, giving attendees a closer look at these amazing birds. Newman will explain why they are so important to this state and how Vermonters can help them thrive.
Newman has worked with birds of prey for almost 30 years in both rehabilitation and education. OFES continues to provide education programs using wild ambassador raptors on site at Shelburne Farms, schools and other locations.
