Local hoop: Tiger, Otter Valley girls, VUHS boys all win

ADDISON COUNTY — The Vergennes boys’ team defeated Otter Valley and the OV and Middlebury girls picked up wins to highlight local high school basketball earlier this week.
In other games, the Mount Abraham boys and Vergennes girls lost home contests. The OV boys also hosted the Tiger boys on Tuesday; see story on Page 1B.
OV-VUHS BOYS
At VUHS on Monday, the Commodores earned their second straight win, 64-55, over the visiting Otters. Forward Josh Dam led the way for VUHS with 19 points and 12 rebounds, and guards Adam Gill (14 points) and Dylan Bradford (11) also contributed offense as Vergennes improved to 3-6 headed into a Wednesday night home game vs. Mount Abe.
 Guards Kai Norwood  (19 points) and Derek Aines (18) topped the scoring table for the Otters, who dropped to 2-8 heading into their Tuesday home game vs. Middlebury.
OV GIRLS
In Brandon on Monday, the Otter girls won their fourth straight game, this one at the expense of visiting Burr & Burton, 38-28. Senior forward Amy Jones sparked OV with 15 points and nine rebounds, and Courtney Bushey,Lexi Hedding andGabby Poalino added five points apiece. OV improved to 4-3 after opening the season at 0-3. The Division I Bulldogs dropped to 4-5.
TIGER GIRLS
Also on Monday, sophomore guard Keagan Dunbar tallied 32 points as the Tigers defeated host Winooski, 52-37. Dunbar has scored 33 and 32 points in back-to-back games. The Tigers improved to 4-3 with their second win over Winooski (3-4); the first was a four-point nail-biter at home.
EAGLE BOYS  
On Monday in Bristol, visiting Mill River improved to 6-3 with a 68-47 victory over the Eagles. The effort was an improvement for 0-8 Mount Abe, which lost at MRU by 41 the week before. Jackson Counter (17 points), Jack Willis and Caleb Bonvouloir  (11 each) reached double figures for the Eagles.
VUHS GIRLS
On Tuesday, visiting Milton outscored the Commodore girls by 24-5 in the second half in the Yellowjackets’ 46-21 victory. Milton hurt VUHS on the boards, and Lauren Juenker led a balanced Milton attack with 10 points. Nikki Salley led VUHS with eight.
Milton improved to 2-5, while the Commodores saw a four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-2.
