VERGENNES — Vergennes police and U.S. marshals on March 6 arrested a third suspect from a Feb. 28 incident involving drugs and attempting to elude police.

The marshals arrested Jesse Ware, 21, a North Dakota resident who has been living on Potash Bay in Addison, in Quechee on this past Friday and turned him over to Vergennes police.

Vergennes police lodged Ware at the Chittenden County Correctional Center on several citations, including being a fugitive from justice, attempting to elude police, and providing false information to a police officer.

The charges stem from the previous Saturday, when police said they pulled over an SUV driven by Ware, who said his license was at his Potash Bay home. On the way there, a car driven by his stepfather, Donald Ray Ross, 31, allegedly helped Ware elude police.

Police eventually on the 28th arrested Ross and Ware’s mother, Lynette Ross, 54, of North Dakota, at the Potash Bay home and lodged them on a variety of charges, but could not immediately find Ware after discovering his abandoned vehicle near the home. Police said they found what appeared to be an empty heroin bag in Ware’s SUV, and an investigation is ongoing.

In other incidents between March 2 and 8, Vergennes police:

•  On March 2 found keys in a Green Street business door after hours, but discovered the owner was inside.

•  On March 3 on behalf of Vermont State Police found a John Graham Shelter resident who was threatening himself harm and turned him over to the Counseling Service of Addison County.

•  On March 5 ticketed six cars parked in violation of the city’s wintertime overnight parking ban.

•  On March 5 helped a motorist get into a locked car on Comfort Hill.

•  On March 6 helped Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at a medical call at the John Graham Shelter.

•  On March 6 responded to a report of the odor of marijuana at a Main Street apartment building, but smelled nothing.

•  On March 6 checked the welfare of a John Graham Shelter resident, who was found to be fine.

•  On March 7 were told by a Green Street resident that mail might have been opened and a check possibly stolen.

•  On March 7 dealt with two complaints of a man being disruptive and shouting obscenities, first on South Water Street and then on First Street. They found him on the second try, discovered he was drunk and took him to a friend’s house to stay.

•  On March 7 took a Northlands Job Corps student to Porter Hospital for treatment after the student had attempted suicide by hanging.

•  On March 7 were told that the Addison County Sheriff’s Department had taken a minor Northlands student who had committed a simple assault to the Woodside Juvenile Rehabilitation Center.
