Tiger girls’ hockey blanks Saranac
SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team earned a 1-0 win at Saranac Lake, N.Y., on Dec. 23 to improve to 4-2-1 heading into a critical stretch of four straight Division I home games, including two played after the early holiday deadline for this edition of the Independent.
On Wednesday, the Tigers are set to host undefeated Spaulding, and on Thursday Northfield (6-1) is set to visit. Northfield owns a home win over MUHS and has lost only to Spaulding. Those games are part of the Tigers’ annual holiday tournament at the Memorial Sports Center.
On Saturday, South Burlington (2-4) visits at 5 p.m., and next Tuesday defending champion Essex (5-1) comes to town.
Back on Dec. 23, Abby Gleason’s second-period goal, with Lauren Bartlett assisting, proved to be the game-winner vs. Saranac Lake.
Goalie Rowan Hendy made 13 saves for the Tigers, while Saranac’s Lindsay Reeve stopped 32 shots.
