VERGENNES — Vergennes police made a driving-under-the-influence arrest on Dec. 11 after a homeowner on Route 22A in Panton called to tell them that a car had driven across a lawn before swerving back onto the highway.
City police stopped the vehicle on Main Street in Vergennes and cited Angela Sue Whitney, 48, of Panton for DUI. Police allege that her roadside blood-alcohol tested at 0.128 before her evidentiary test came in at 0.102. The legal limit for driving is 0.08.
Police also ticketed Whitney for possessing an open container of alcohol and drug paraphernalia in the car, and for failing to use a turn signal.
In other incidents between Dec. 7 and 13, Vergennes police:
• On Dec. 7 helped Vermont State Police at the scene of a two-car crash with injuries on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh.
• On Dec. 7 asked Hinesburg police to serve a no-trespass order to a resident of that town on behalf of a Sunset Drive resident.
• On Dec. 8 dealt with a minor two-car accident on South Maple Street.
• On Dec. 8 warned the ex-husband of a Maple Manor resident who said he had been making threatening calls.
• On Dec. 8 calmed a dispute between First Street neighbors triggered by one neighbor’s dog relieving itself on the other neighbor’s property; police also suggested the dog not be allowed to do so.
• On Dec. 9 helped direct traffic at a Ferrisburgh fire on Route 7.
• On Dec. 10 drove a man to Burlington who had been kicked out of his residence by his girlfriend.
• On Dec. 10 accepted a wallet that had been found at a downtown business.
• On Dec. 10 helped the Addison County Sheriff’s Department deal with an alleged case of fraud.
• On Dec. 10 served a relief-from-abuse order on a female resident of Sunset Drive.
• At a Dec. 10 Main Street traffic stop ticketed the driver for plates not assigned and drug paraphernalia, and grounded the car; they also issued a citation to a passenger on behalf of Rutland police.
• On Dec. 11 were called to a Main Street apartment about an unwanted male guest and gave him a courtesy ride to South Burlington.
• On Dec. 11 lent a gas can to a motorist stranded on Main Street.
• On Dec. 11 checked apparent phone activity at an empty home, but found no problem.
• On Dec. 11 received a tip about illegal drug activity in the area.
• On Dec. 11 served a relief-from-abuse order to a Main Street resident after trying to find him three times the day before.
• On Dec. 11 and 12 heard from homeowners who were concerned about suspicious activity; in both cases the issue was door-to-door salespersons.
• On Dec. 12 responded to a noise complaint at a Main Street apartment.
• On Dec. 12 helped a woman get into her locked car at Shaw’s Supermarket.
• On Dec. 12 ticketed a Northlands Job Corps student for marijuana possession.
• On Dec. 13 issued winter parking ban warnings.
• On Dec. 13 checked the welfare of a Maple Manor resident, who was found to be fine.
• On Dec. 13 cited Shannon R. Hendrix, 32, of Vergennes for domestic assault for allegedly pushing another woman through a screen door at a Main Street apartment, causing her to fall on her back. Police also alerted the Department for Children and Families about the living conditions at the apartment, where children were present.
