MUHS girls’ hockey earns wins, tie to stay unbeaten

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team picked up two wins in a tie in the past week and stood at 3-0-1 heading into play on Wednesday night.
The Tigers were set to travel to play Division I BFA-St. Albans on Wednesday, and then will visit another D-I foe, Northfield, on Saturday.
On Monday, the Tigers got a tie-breaking third-period goal from Julia Carone and a goal and an assist from Lauren Bartlett in a 2-1 win over visiting Plattsburgh (N.Y.).
Bartlett gave the Tigers the lead in the first period on a goal assisted by Monroe Cromis and Tulley Hescock.
After a scoreless second period, Plattsburgh’s Meghan Sullivan equalized in the third period. Carone then netted the game-winner on a play set up by Bartlett.
Tiger goalie Rowan Hendy backstopped the win with 15 saves, while Corrine Smith stopped 20 shots for the visitors.
On Saturday, the Tigers won at Rutland, 5-1, as Andi Boe picked up a goal and two assists and Helen Anderson scored twice.
Carone and Hescock added a goal apiece, and Satchel McLaughlin chipped in two assists.
Katie Billings made nine saves in the Tiger net, and two Raider goalies combined for 16 stops.
On Dec. 9, the Tigers played at Plattsburgh and scored twice in the third period to forge a 2-2 tie.
Abby Gleason and Anderson notched the goals that brought the Tigers back, and Hendy made 24 saves in the Tiger goal. Smith stopped 22 shots for Plattsburgh.
