Holiday religious services

ADDISON COUNTY — Several Addison County-area churches have set their schedules for special Christmas events and services.
BRANDON
St. Thomas & Grace Episcopal Church will hold a Christmas Eve service Thursday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. at Grace Church in Forest Dale.
BRISTOL
The First Baptist Church of Bristol will hold its traditional Christmas Eve family candle-lighting service on Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. There will be readings, carols and special music.
St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church on will hold a Christmas Eve children’s Liturgy on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 5:15 p.m., and a Mass with Senior Choir at 9 p.m. A New Year’s Eve Mass will be held on Thursday, Dec. 31, at 5 p.m.
The Bristol Christian Fellowship will celebrate Christmas at its regular Sunday worship service on Dec. 20 at 9 a.m.
CHARLOTTE
The Charlotte Congregational Church will hold “Carols of Many Lands — A Sing-along” on Friday, Dec. 18, from 6-7:30 p.m.; and a Christmas pageant on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. On Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, there will be a family service at 4:30 p.m. and a traditional candlelight service at 7 p.m.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church will hold Christmas Eve Masses on Thursday, Dec. 24, in several locations: at 4 p.m. at the Old Lantern, at 7 p.m. at St. Jude, and at 10 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Christmas Day Mass will be held on Friday, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m. at St. Jude. New Year’s Eve Mass will be held on Thursday, Dec. 31, at 4 p.m. at St. Jude. And a New Year’s Day Mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 1, at 10 a.m. at OLMC.
FERRISBURGH
The Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church (“The Little Brown Church”) will hold an evening for Compassionate Friends on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. This ministry is for those who have lost a child in the past year. The church will hold a service of candlelight lessons and carols on Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m. The service will include special music and a birthday cake for Jesus.
FOREST DALE
St. Thomas & Grace Episcopal Church will hold a Christmas Eve service Thursday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. at Grace Church in Forest Dale.
HANCOCK/GRANVILLE
The Community Church of Hancock and Granville will hold a Christmas Eve service Thursday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m.
LINCOLN
The United Church of Lincoln will hold three candlelight Christmas Eve services on Thursday, Dec. 24: a 6:30 p.m. service with children’s pageant, an 8:30 p.m. traditional service with message, and an 11:30 p.m. service with carols, readings and Communion.
MIDDLEBURY
The Middlebury United Methodist Church will hold Fourth Sunday of Advent services on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 10:45 a.m., with the Rev. Jill Robinson preaching. There will be a Longest Night/Blue Christmas service on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. A Christmas Eve service of candlelit lessons and carols will be held on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury will hold Christmas Eve Masses on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 4 and 9 p.m. A Christmas Day Mass is on Friday, Dec. 25, at 9 a.m.
The Congregational Church of Middlebury will hold Christmas Eve services on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Both will include the lighting of candles. There will be an informal Christmas worship service on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m.
Memorial Baptist Church in Middlebury will hold a service of lessons and carols on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. On Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, there will be a candle-lighting service with carol singing, special music and visual presentation. There will be a brief, “come-as-you-are” morning service on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will hold a Gentle Christmas service on Saturday, Dec. 19, at noon, for those for whom the Christmas season may be difficult; a Communion service will be followed by a soup lunch. There will be Christmas Eve pageant and Communion service on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m.; and a Christmas Eve service with choral music at 10 p.m., followed by Communion at 10:30 p.m. The Christmas Day service will take place Friday, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m. On Saturday, Dec. 26, at 10 a.m., volunteers will gather for a St. Stephen’s Day/Boxing Day celebration, boxing up food to be delivered to families who may be challenged by the two-week school holiday; brunch will be provided. And on Sunday, Dec. 27, there will be a Holy Communion service at 8 a.m. and a Lessons & Carols Communion service at 10:30 a.m.
The Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society will hold a winter solstice celebration on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. There will be two Christmas Eve services on Thursday, Dec. 24, both ending with candle lighting and the singing of “Silent Night”: at 5 p.m. a Christmas Celebration for all ages, including a no-rehearsal Christmas pageant, with carols and youth choir; and at 7:30 p.m. a service titled “The Christmas Story, Past and Present,” with readings, carols, the CVUUS choir, guest musicians, gospel music from François Clemmons, and Rev. Barnaby Feder’s homily on what Christians and non-believers alike are called to celebrate. Community carol singing at 7:15.
NEW HAVEN
New Haven Congregational Church invites all to their Christmas Eve candlelight service Thursday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
NORTH FERRISBURGH
The North Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church will offer two Christmas Eve services on Thursday, Dec. 24: at 5 p.m., a 45-minute family-friendly service with candle lighting aaimed at young children (birth through sixth grade); and at 7:30 p.m. an hour-long traditional service with carols, sermon and candle lighting.
SHOREHAM
The Shoreham Congregational Church will hold a Christmas pageant during the morning worship service on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. There will be a traditional Christmas Eve candlelight service with carols, readings and a performance by the Shoreham Ecumenical Choir on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 5 p.m.
SOUTH STARKSBORO
The Jerusalem Gathering will hold a Christmas Eve service on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Jerusalem Schoolhouse behind the Jerusalem Store, just off Route 17.
VERGENNES
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will hold Fourth Sunday of Advent services on Sunday, Dec. 20: at 8 a.m., Holy Eucharist, Rite I; and at 10 a.m., Holy Eucharist, Rite II, with children’s pageant. On Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10:30 a.m., there will be a morning prayer at Vergennes Residential Care Home. On Thursday, Dec. 24, the church will hold its Christmas Eve Holy Eucharist, Rite II, at 4 p.m.
St. Peter’s Church will hold a Christmas Eve children’s Mass on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m. and a Christmas Day Mass on Friday, Dec. 25, at 10 a.m.
Vergennes United Methodist Church will hold a Candlelight Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
The Vergennes Congregational Church will hold two Christmas Eve candlelight services on Thursday, Dec. 24: a 4:30 p.m. family services, and a 7 p.m. a traditional service.
WEST ADDISON
The West Addison United Methodist Church will hold a Candlelight Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m.
