ADDISON COUNTY — A very bad two-car crash in Ferrisburgh on Monday afternoon sent three people to the hospital with serious injuries and resulted in the closure of Route 7 for more than two and a half hours.
That followed a rollover crash on Route 125 in Ripton earlier in the day, and another two-car crash last week on Route 7 a couple miles north of the Dec. 7 crash.
On Monday, Dec. 7, at around 2:30 p.m. state police were alerted to a crash on Route 7 near Starry Night Café in North Ferrisburgh. Police report that Ora Turner, 55, of Rutland was driving a Buick Enclave northbound on Route 7, and she drove the SUV left of the center line and collided with a southbound Suzuki Equator pickup truck driven by 55-year-old Scott Laramee of South Burlington. Police report that the weather was clear and the asphalt was dry.
Ambulances from the Vergennes and Charlotte area rescue squads responded, and transported Turner, Turner’s passenger, and Laramee to UVM Medical Center. Turner sustained a broken left arm and leg; and her passenger, 72-year-old Nancy Burrell of Rutland, sustained a possibly broken sternum and/or ribs plus cuts on her face, according to police. Laramee suffered a broken femur and hip fracture. All three were reportedly wearing seatbelts.
Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage.
Police reported the closure of Route 7 at 3:06 p.m. and said it was reopened at 5:46 p.m.
RIPTON ROLLOVER
Separately, state police responded to the one-car crash on Route 125 near the Ripton Country Store a little before noon on Monday. Troopers report that Katherine Kennedy, 59, of York, Maine, was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on the road when she encountered a slippery, ice-covered section of highway. Kennedy lost control of the vehicle and it slid off of the road and rolled over.
Members of the Ripton Fire Department and Middlebury Heavy Rescue extricated Kennedy, who was trapped in the wreckage. She wasn’t injured, police said, but the Middlebury Regional EMS ambulance took Kennedy to Porter Hospital for evaluation. Multiple sides of the Jeep were damaged from rolling over.
Staff from the state Agency of Transportation came to the scene and, after a brief assessment, put salt on the road surface to melt the ice.
TRACTOR-TRAILER VS. KIA
Meanwhile, a Bristol man driving a Peterbilt truck was involved in a head-on crash on Route 7 on Dec. 1. At a few minutes before 7 p.m. that day, state police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Route 7 and State Park Road in Charlotte. The collision involved a tractor-trailer tanker truck that had an empty fuel oil tank attached and a Kia Sedona.
The tractor-trailer, driven by Curtis Cyr, 36, of Bristol, was traveling northbound on Route 7 as it approached the intersection of State Park Road; at the same time 54-year-old Nancy Smith of Charlotte was driving the 2006 Kia westbound on State Park Road. Police described the weather as raining and the road as wet.
  The Kia failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into the intersection. Cyr attempted to avoid the collision by turning his big rig sharply to the left, but it nevertheless struck the front end of the Kia causing it to slide off the east side of the roadway. The tractor-trailer began to jackknife and slid off the west side of the roadway, missed a home by 10 feet and came to rest approximately 50 feet off of Route 7.
The truck sustained heavy front-end damage, but Cyr was not injured. Smith, in the Kia, suffered a dislocated shoulder and a fractured knee, and her car was totaled.
Route 7 was closed for three hours while crews worked the scene and tow companies worked to pull the tractor-trailer back onto the roadway. Assisting the state police was Charlotte Fire and Rescue, Shelburne Fire and Rescue as well as Shelburne police, the Vergennes and Ferrisburgh fire departments, and Department of Motor Vehicles. The collision is still under investigation, but police said impairment does not appear to be a factor in this crash.

•  Were called to investigate the theft of road signs located on numerous roads throughout Weybridge. It is estimated that the thefts occurred between Nov. 26 and Dec. 1, when police were called. •  On Dec. 6 at 2:07 p.m. received a report of an assault at a Route 74 home in Shoreham. After investigating, troopers arrested Amanda Rogers-Wilson, 20, of Shoreham and cited her for domestic assault and unlawful mischief. Police also took Rogers-Wilson to Porter Medical Center in Middlebury due to an unrelated medical condition.
