Tiger, Eagle wrestlers earn podium berths
ADDISON COUNTY — Middlebury and Mount Abraham union high school wrestlers fared well at tournaments in Saranac Lake, N.Y., and St. Johnsbury, respectively, with four wrestlers from each team reaching podiums.
The Tigers competed at the Nathan Wood Memorial Tournament in Saranac Lake, where senior Nathan Gebo led the way by winning the 113-pound weight class. Gebo pinned his first three opponents, all from New York, before earning a 5-2 win in the final over his opponent from Noble, Maine.
Also, Tiger junior Joe Langevin took third at 285 with a 3-2 record, Tiger senior Alex Sheldrick took fourth at 160 with a 2-2 record, and sophomore Robert Pike took fourth at 152 with a 2-2 mark.
Also picking up wins for the Tigers were freshman Justin Jackson at 126, sophomore Joe Whitley at 145, and freshman Josh Trautwein at 285.
For Mount Abe at the St. Johnsbury Invitational, another meet that draws multi-state competition, freshman Roman Mayer made his varsity debut by taking second at 120 pounds to pace the Eagles.
Junior Dylan Little grabbed third at 160 pounds, while two Eagle sophomores wrestled to fourth-place finishes, Ben Murray at 126 and Christian Little at 132, in Mount Abe’s strongest tournament showing in the past few seasons.
