Meeting in New Haven to discuss power substation plan

NEW HAVEN — The New Haven selectboard is inviting the public to come to the town hall Tuesday evening to an informational meeting on Anbaric Transmission’s proposal to bury a high-power electric power line through part of New Haven and build a big new converter station in the center of town.
Representatives from Anbaric and its partner National Grid will review details of the Vermont Green Line, an electric cable that would move wind and hydro power generated in New York and Canada into the New England grid via a New Haven converter station that will be roughly five stories high and the size of a football field.
The meeting will be held Tuesday, Dec. 8, beginning at 7 p.m. at the New Haven Town Hall.
The developers have promised a big pay day for the town if it agrees to host the electric infrastructure, but town officials and some citizens have questions about the project they want answered before giving their blessing.
