Current staff assume new roles at the Snow Bowl

HANCOCK — Two current staff members have assumed new positions this ski season at Middlebury College’s Middlebury Snow Bowl in Hancock. Sean Grzyb (pronounced “grizb”) has been named ski patrol director and Brett Rubright has been appointed Snow School director.
Grzyb joined the Snow Bowl staff in 2008. Prior to being named to his new position, he served as the assistant director of the ski patrol and worked as a member of the crews responsible for snowmaking, trail maintenance and chairlift construction. In his new role, Grzyb will supervise the Snow Bowl’s team of ski patrollers. Aside from himself and the assistant director, Jeff Colt, the team is made up of Middlebury College students who are required to go through a rigorous screening process and training program before being certified as members of the ski patrol.
Rubright has worked as an instructor and staff trainer at the Snow Bowl’s Snow School since 2001. As director, he will oversee the Snow School’s instructors — some of whom are also Middlebury College students — and manage all its programs, including lessons in downhill and telemark skiing as well as snowboarding. Rubright has a long history with the Snow Bowl: His father was an instructor, he learned to ski there, and he raced and served as an instructor there as a student at Middlebury Union High School.
“In their new positions, Sean and Brett will ensure that visitors to the Snow Bowl will find the same friendly atmosphere and strong programs the Snow Bowl is known for,” said Peter Mackey, manager of the Snow Bowl. “With a little help from mother nature, we’re looking forward to a great season.”
