‘Clickshare’ looks at how we are losing interpersonal skills

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College Department of Theatre and Dance will present alumnus Lucas Kavner’s play “Clickshare” from Thursday, Dec. 3, through Saturday, Dec. 5, in the Seeler Studio Theatre in the Mahaney Center for the Arts.
The play is set in the online office of a news media company called Clickshare. Kavner’s play highlights how interpersonal communication has broken down in light of recent technological innovations, especially social media. Sometimes, these communication breakdowns produce comedy, but at other times, they can produce very dangerous conditions.
The play is relevant today, given how present technology and social media are. How can people continue to have meaningful relationships and experiences as technology becomes a more central part of their daily lives?
Associate Professor of Theatre Alex Draper will direct the production, featuring a company of 13 Middlebury College students, including Alexander Burnett, Miguel Castillo, Caitlin Duffy, Shannon Gibbs, Akhila Khanna, Michelle Kim, Katie Mayopolous, Jackson Prince, Eliza Renner, Taylor Rossini, Sally Seitz, Sabrina Wang and Oliver Wijayapala.
Audience members are also invited to a post-show discussion in the Seeler Studio Theatre following Friday night’s performance. The cast, crew and design team will explore the themes and challenges in the production.
“Clickshare” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, as well as at 2 p.m. on Saturday only. Tickets are $12 for the general public; $10 for Middlebury College faculty, staff, alumni, emeriti, and other ID cardholders; and $6 for Middlebury College students. The theater is located in the Mahaney Center for the Arts at 72 Porter Field Road in Middlebury. Free parking is available at the Center for the Arts. Handicap-accessible parking is available.
