ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police reported two arrests of young people in their 20s involving heroin in the last few days of November.
On Monday, Nov. 30, at around 3:30 p.m., troopers from the New Haven barracks along with an Addison County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of a green Pontiac van being operated in an erratic manner on Route 7. Authorities located the van and stopped it near the intersection of Routes 7 and 17 in New Haven.
State police said that during the stop a person in the van identified as 25-year-old Truc P. Mai of Burlington was found to be in possession of heroin. They took her to the New Haven barracks, cited her for possession of heroin and released her.
That followed a Nov. 28 arrest in Brookfield involving an Addison County woman. At around 10 a.m. that Saturday state police executed a search warrant at a West Brookfield Road home and said they found heroin and heroin paraphernalia. Police cited four people for possession of heroin: Daisey Lumbra, 22, of East Granville; Patrick Mccullough, 24, of Williamstown; Jessica Stuart, 35, of Brookfield; and James Freeman, 34, of Brookfield.
In other recent activity, state police:
•  On Nov. 24 at approximately 9:19 p.m. received a report of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Pease Road and Arnold Bay Road in Panton. The driver, identified as 43-year-old Agnes Klucha of Panton, told a trooper that prior to the collision she was driving westbound on Pease Road at approximately 45 mph when she briefly looked down at her dashboard and when she looked back up she saw that she had missed the curve in the roadway and gone off the road. The 2015 Mercedes 350 she was driving collided with a utility pole, causing major damage to the car. Klucha sustained minor injuries, including cuts, as a result of the crash. State police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. No court action was expected.
•  On Nov. 27 at 6:30 p.m. stopped a dark-colored, small SUV after observing the vehicle fail to obey the traffic light on Court Street at Cross Street in Middlebury. The trooper reported that the driver was impaired, and took him to the New Haven barracks. Police cited Brian T. Raymond, 31, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, and released him to a family member.
•  On Nov. 27 at a quarter to midnight stopped a vehicle on Route 2A in St. George for allegedly traveling at 82 mph in a 35 mph zone (47 over the posted speed limit). At the time of the incident the roads were wet and there was a light rain coming down. Police cited the driver, identified as 20-year-old Starksboro resident Joshua C. Thomas, for negligent driving.
•  Nov. 29 at 12:25 p.m. responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 103 in Cavendish. Police reported that Jeffrey Stanley, 37, of Cornwall was driving a 2005 Toyota Tundra northbound when he slowed down at a railroad crossing, and 22-year-old Sawyer Olson of Guilford was traveling behind him in a 1997 Toyota Camry. Police said that Olson was following too closely and rear-ended Stanley’s pickup. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and there were no injuries, but the Camry was towed from the scene. Olson was issued a warning for following too closely.
