Rakowski wins Vt. Sun 5K Run
SALISBURY — In a small field, 9-year-old Calder Rakowski of Vergennes won the Sept. 27 Vermont Sun 5K Run at Branbury State Park on Lake Dunmore in Salisbury. Rakowski finished in 24:35, just edging out Sybren Spensley from Pittsford, the first female, who finished in 24:39.
In the day’s main event, the Vermont Sun Half Marathon Run, James Scott of Randolph Center won in 1:27:28. He was followed by the top female finisher, Heather Mugford of Randolph, in 1:33:05. In third overall was Middlebury’s Rick Bunt.
Dylan Landry of Conway, Mass., won the 10K Run in 42:35. The early fall day was perfect for running, with temperatures in the upper 60s and bright sunshine.
The three running races were the final events in the Vermont Sun Triathlon and Run Series for 2015.
The Middlebury Union High School girls’ soccer teams provided support at all the run aid stations.
The series benefits local youth sports teams and various nonprofit organizations.
