Spooky+Tasty=Fun at Bixby Halloween banquet

VERGENNES — A creative cast of volunteers turned Bixby Library into the spooky domain of the Addams Family this past Halloween, when they hosted a special fundraising dinner-for-12 in the library lobby under the dome.
Ghosts and red-eyed bats suspended from the balcony mingled with animated witches and ghouls on the floor. The Texas chainsaw murderer stepped out of his coffin, warning partygoers to head to their tables; the ghost of Mr. Bixby himself made an appearance; and the Phantom of the Opera materialized suddenly out of nowhere.
Members of the Addams Family were on hand to serve guests menu items such as Lurch’s Shape-shifting Shrimp, Uncle Fester’s Festering Pumpkin Soup and Grandmama’s Mummified Beef Tenderloin, all prepared by chef-of-the-evening Andrew Fritz, aka Grandmama.
LIZ MARKOWSKI, AS Morticia Addams, helps husband Peter emerge as Uncle Fester, complete with light bulb and special electrical powers.
The Halloween dinner-for-12 was an auction item up for bid at the Bixby Ball last spring. It was organized and subsequently hosted by Andrew and Jeff Fritz, Liz and Peter Markowski, Lynne and Renny Perry and Lizbeth and Tim Ryan. The Addams Family theme was especially appropriate to explore this season as Vergennes Union High School will be staging “The Addams Family” musical for their annual student production Nov. 19-21.
LURCH AND GOMEZ (Tim Ryan and Renny Perry) serve up “Grandmama’s Mummified Beef Tenderloin” with flair.
