Artists sought for juried art exhibit
BRANDON — The Compass Music and Arts Center in Brandon is accepting submissions for the “Winter as Prism or Prison” juried exhibit. The exhibit runs from Jan. 15 through March 26 with a submission deadline of Dec. 4.
Especially here in New England, winter can be a long, cold endeavor that some find to be a magical time full of fun and striking ever-changing light, while others hunker down and pass the months indoors, waiting for the first signs of spring. How do you view winter: as a beautiful prism of light or a prison of epic proportions?
Submissions will be considered by notable Vermont artists Wendy Copp, Maurie Harrington and Mary Fran Lloyd, and judged based on the submitting artist’s interpretation of the “Winter as Prism or Prison” theme. A cash prize will be awarded, along with future exhibiting opportunities at Compass.
The submission materials and payment must be received by Dec. 4. The submission guidelines are available at www.cmacvt.org or via [email protected].
Wendy Copp is an artist based out of South Burlington who creates sculptural pieces made of natural materials she gathers herself. Most recently she was an artist in residence at Shelburne Farms and participated in the Burlington City Arts show “Of Land and Local.”
Watercolor artist Maurie Harrington travels the world, giving her artist’s perspective to the people and places she meets. She is a signature member of the Vermont Watercolor Society, a member of Island Arts, the Chaffee Art Center, League of Vermont Writers, and a founding member of the Killington Arts Guild.
In addition to owning and operating the Art & Antiques Oon Center in Rutland for five years, Mary Fran Lloyd, an abstract mixed media artist, is a signature member of the Vermont Watercolor Society, an exhibiting member of the Brandon Artists Guild, the Killington Arts Guild, Chaffee Art Center and the Vermont Institute of Contemporary Art (VTica) in Chester.
