MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police reported that a vehicle driven by a Middlebury man struck two pedestrians as he was turning left from Main Street onto Merchants Row this past Saturday at around 11:30 a.m.
Both pedestrians were transported to Porter Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries. Police said on Tuesday they had not filed charges but their investigation continues.
In other activity last week, Middlebury police:
• On Oct. 19 received a report of the odor of marijuana coming from a South Village Green apartment and issued the tenant a ticket for possession of marijuana.
• On Oct. 19 assisted the Middlebury Fire Department with a suspicious fire on Jayne Court.
• Assisted Bennington police with a custodial issue involving two Middlebury juveniles on Oct. 19.
• On Oct. 20 looked into a report from Middlebury Beef Supply on Route 7 South of someone taking money off the counter though the money belonged to someone else. Investigation continues.
• On Oct. 20 received at the police department some marijuana that a person had found in a driveway.
• Began investigating an Oct. 20 report from South Main Street of a child being touched in an inappropriate manner.
• On Oct. 20 helped out with a report of an out-of-control student at Mary Hogan Elementary School.
• Investigated possible drug activity in the Jackson Lane neighborhood on Oct. 20.
• Arrested Dyke Ackland, 63, of Middlebury and cited him for driving under the influence following a complaint at Porter Hospital. Police  said Ackland’s blood alcohol content tested at 0.208 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
• On Oct. 21 checked the welfare of a child in East Middlebury at the request of a caller. The child was OK.
• Patrolled East Munger Street on Oct. 22 after receiving a report of a speeding black car.
• Logged a junk ordinance complaint in the Woodland Park neighborhood on Oct. 22.
• At 12:55 a.m. on Oct. 23 received a request to check on a male jumping in front of cars and looking for a ride on South Street. An officer gave the male a ride to a hotel.
• On Oct. 23 attempted to locate a person seeking help for mental health issues in East Middlebury. Police determined that the person was in Salisbury and notified Vermont State Police.
• Received a request for assistance from a parent whose child was intentionally missing the school bus on Oct. 23. The school resource officer transported the student to school.
• On Oct. 23 received a report of an embezzlement that occurred at Middlebury College. Investigation is ongoing.
• Looked into complaints about noisy neighbors at the South Village Green apartments on Oct. 23 and 24.
• Assisted a homeowner who returned home at 10:43 p.m. on Oct. 23 to find a light on and a door open.
• Warned two males who were found at the intersection of College and Weybridge streets at a little past midnight on Oct. 24 for being in violation of the town’s open container ordinance.
• Escorted a patron from a downtown business at the request of the business on Oct. 24.
• Responded to a home in the Creek Road neighborhood three times over the course of three and a half hours beginning at 8:57 p.m. on Oct. 24. The first time, police report that officers resolved a family dispute involving mental health issues. Police returned a few hours later for a report of a resident having mental health issues. The resident in question refused to seek assistance through the Counseling Service of Addison County and police said he calmed down. Other family members at the residence told police they would speak with CSAC about his escalating behavior. A little after midnight police returned again after receiving a report of a male with mental health issues locking family members outside their home. Police left after the issue was resolved.
Police also report that they visited the same residence on Oct. 19 and 20 for what they described as “mental health issues,” one case in which an adult was reported to be acting “strange and irrational.”
• On Oct. 25 responded to a report in the South Munger Street neighborhood that a parent was refusing to transfer a child to the other parent for a visitation. The parent turned over the child to the other parent before police arrived.
• Went to a reported family dispute in the South Gorham Lane neighborhood on Oct. 25, but some parties had left by the time police arrived, resolving the issue.
• On Oct. 25 responded to an accident in a Court Street Extension parking lot where one of the vehicles involved was apparently trying to leave the scene.
• Assisted an elderly man on the Middlebury College campus who was confused and lost on Oct. 25. The officer returned the man to his home.
• Received an Oct. 25 report from a woman who said her boyfriend was suicidal and on the town green. The officer found the boyfriend who said he only told her he was suicidal to change the way she was acting. Police closed the case.
• Stopped a vehicle for speeding on Court Street near Cross Street late on Oct. 25 and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the car. The officer issued several occupants of the vehicle diversion paperwork.
