Eagle football scores big, but falls to Milton High
BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham/Vergennes football team scored a season-high point total on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to defeat playoff-bound Milton, which picked up a 62-38 victory in a Division II contest.
Milton, the No. 4 seed for the upcoming D-II postseason, improved to 6-3, while the Eagles completed their first-ever season at the D-II level with a 2-7 mark.
Brad Bombard rushed for four touchdowns and 192 yards on 18 carries to lead Milton, and also returned an interception for a score.
VUHS senior Ryan Paquin sparked the home team by scoring five times to cap his Mount Abe football career. He rushed for three scores, amassing 192 yards on 25 carries; caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Coleman Russell; and returned a kickoff 80 yards for another TD. Mount Abe senior Matthew Mullin, normally an offensive lineman, added a 1-yard touchdown run.
