Opinion: Demonstration set to protest

The Vermont fracked gas pipeline is now in a critical stage of regulatory decision-making. AARP has come out against the proposed deal that Gov. Shumlin reached with Vermont Gas to cap the pipeline costs that customers will be required to pay
We also feel this pipeline is a bad deal for Vermonters. The “deal” may be illegal, the lawyers are wrangling, there are loopholes, and AARP has submitted a motion to strike this deal from the record. We are concerned about this huge, expensive infrastructure that we will be stuck with for decades. Instead, let’s invest in renewable energy sources that don’t contribute to climate change.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, there will be a demonstration on the Statehouse lawn at 11 a.m. to stop the Vermont Gas pipeline. Come if you can and spread the word.
