College field hockey too much for two foes in shutout wins

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College field hockey team posted two one-sided shutout wins this past weekend to improve to 12-1. The Panthers entered this week ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III and will visit Bates on Saturday.
On this past Saturday, the Panthers scored four goals in less than 12 minutes in the first half in a 6-0 win over visiting Trinity. Three of those goals came from Pam Schulman.
Schulman started the scoring with a penalty stroke in the 15th minute. Less than three minutes later, Schulman lifted a shot over the head of Trinity goalie Sophie Fitzpatrick at 17:57 after taking a feed from Bridget Instrum. Schulman completed her three-goal effort when she tapped in a cross from Annie Leonard. 
The Panthers added another first-half goal when Molly Freeman converted a cross from Grace Jennings. Leonard added a pair of second-half goals.
Middlebury goalie Emily Miller posted four saves. The Panthers held advantages of 21-7 in shots and 11-5 in penalty corners. Fitzpatrick made 12 stops for the Bantams.
The Panthers also scored four times in the first half on Sunday in a 5-0 win over visiting Husson.
Schulman netted her own rebound 3:40 into the game to put the Panthers on top. Leonard took a pass from Jennings and converted at 6:50 to make it 2-0. Instrum converted a Jennings feed to make it 3-0, and Shannon Hutteman made it 4-0 on a penalty corner, with a setup from Anna Kenyon and Instrum. In the second half, Carson Peacock scored from Audrey Quirk.
Emily Miller made one first-half save, while Evangeline Dunphy played a scoreless second half. Anne Marie Provencal finished with 10 stops for the Eagles. Middlebury held a 28-3 shots advantage in the game and led by a 17-2 margin in penalty corners.
