ANESU takes steps to separate superintendent from the school district
BRISTOL — At its meeting last Tuesday, Oct. 13, the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union school board took important steps toward hiring an interim superintendent.
The board had voted at its Sept. 29 meeting to reassign Superintendent David Adams’s duties to Assistant Superintendent Catrina DiNapoli, and she has been carrying out those duties and responsibilities ever since. The board chair said at that time that Adams “has been and continues to be on FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) leave,” but did not say when that leave started.
This past Tuesday, the ANeSU board:
• Voted unanimously to authorize the Executive Committee to conclude a separation agreement with Adams.
• Voted unanimously to have the Executive Committee work with DiNapoli to frame a process for selecting an interim superintendent.
• Voted unanimously to authorize the Executive Committee to compensate DiNapoli for her additional responsibilities.
The minutes of last Tuesday’s meeting state that the Executive Committee is expected to meet this Tuesday, Oct. 20, but no agenda for that meeting was available as the Independent went to press on Friday.
The ANeSU board also discussed the upcoming Relationship by Objective training to be facilitated by federal mediators. The date for the RBO training has been set for Nov. 19 through Nov. 22. Attendees would arrive that Thursday evening and work through part of Sunday. At the board’s Oct. 7 meeting, ANeSU board chair Dawn Griswold clarified that the RBO training will take two and a half days and that this time frame is not negotiable. Griswold is working with teachers union chair Mikaela Frank on the makeup of the participants.
A visitor at the meeting, Mount Abe choir director Megan LaRose, asked about the timeline for hiring a permanent Mount Abe principal. Gaynell Lyman stepped down at the end of the last school year, and Carol Fenimore signed on as interim principal. ANeSU board Chair Griswold stated that there is no timeline yet, but that it is something the Mount Abe board will be discussing at an upcoming meeting.
