Panther women’s socer settles for two league deadlocks

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Middlebury College women’s soccer team earned two NESCAC road ties this past weekend. The Panthers stand at 3-3-4 overall, 2-2-3 in league play heading into a non-league game at Castleton on Thursday and a 2 p.m. Saturday home game vs. NESCAC foe Trinity.
On this past Sunday, the Panthers tied host Wesleyan, 2-2.
Middlebury took the lead 4:19 into the game on Adrianna Gildner’s team-leading fifth goal of the season, a shot from the left 20 yards out that tucked inside the right post.
The Panthers changed goalkeepers about 10 minutes later when starter Kate Reinmuth was injured and replaced by Emily Eslinger.
The Cardinals (5-4-2, 2-2-2) tied it at 15:53, when Madeline Keane knocked home the rebound of a Carly Swenson shot that was blocked by a defender.
In the 41st minute, Middlebury’s Katherine Hobbs knocked home a 20 yards to make it 2-1 at the half. The Cardinals tied it at 78:22 on Sarah Sylla’s corner kick.
Sylla nearly ended it with 30 seconds left in regulation, but Eslinger stopped her low shot from five yards out.
Wesleyan outshot Middlebury 15-12, and held an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks. Reinmuth was credited with two stops in 14:01 of action, while Eslinger also tallied a pair of saves. Meghan Hanan notched five saves for Wesleyan.
On Saturday, Middlebury tied host Tufts (4-5-1, 3-3-1 NESCAC), 1-1.
Gildner scored in the 10th minute. Jamie Soroka came down the left side of the field, drew out Tufts goalkeeper Emily Bowers, and feed the ball to Gildner for the score.
Alessandra Sadler tied the game in the final minute of the first half.
Middlebury held a 14-9 shots advantage, and Reinmuth finished with six saves. Emily Bowers made four saves for Tufts.
