Girls soccer: Wins for Eagles, Tigers

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school girls’ soccer action last week, Mount Abraham and Middlebury posted wins, but Vergennes and Otter Valley came up short. Teams are entering their final week of regular season play.
EAGLES
Mount Abe evened its record at .500 with a 5-0 decision at winless Missisquoi, on Friday. The Eagles pulled away with four second-half goals. Nesta McIntosh led the way with two goals and two assists, Lydia Pitts added a goal and two assists, and Caroline McArdle andZoe Cassels-Brown chipped in a goal apiece.
Mount Abe goalie Kamille Snell made two saves as the Eagles won their fourth straight, while T-Bird keeper Jenna Bourdeau stopped 17 shots.
TIGERS
MUHS moved back over .500 at 6-5-1 by blanking visiting Milton, 2-0, on Saturday. Hannah Lawrence’s first-half goal, assisted by Helen Anderson, gave the Tigers the lead, and Claire Wulfman, from Kelsey Smith, added a second-half insurance goal.
Tiger goalie Molly Campbell worked a four-save shutout, while Madison North stopped three shots for the 8-3 Yellowjackets. The Tigers have won four of five.
COMMODORES
On Friday, Rice downed the visiting Commodores, 3-0, despite eight saves from VUHS goalie Anya Sonwaldt. The Commodores dropped to 4-7-1 going into a Wednesday game at Mount Abe and a Saturday home game vs. the Tigers.
OTTERS
On Wednesday, an improving Green Mountain Union side avenged an earlier loss to the Otters with a 7-0 victory.
The Otters late-week game vs. Bellows Falls was rescheduled, and then postponed until Monday. OV is 7-4, and a win on Monday vs. the winless Terriers, at home on Tuesday vs. Windsor or at Leland & Gray on Friday will guarantee the program’s first-ever winning season.
