BRISTOL — Bristol police, working with troopers from the New Haven barracks of the Vermont State Police, say they have made progress in discovering who broke into and robbed several homes in the Bristol area on Monday, Oct. 5.
On Tuesday, police obtained a warrant to search a Monkton residence in connection with the spate of break-ins, and performed the search at around 5:25 p.m. that day. During the search authorities found and seized property from a local burglary. Police said they also found at the home numerous items that had been identified as stolen property from burglaries in the Crown Point and Port Henry, N.Y., area that had occurred during the overnight hours of Oct. 5, and they seized these items, too.
Suspects have been identified and the investigation is continuing. As of Thursday, no arrests had been made.
In other recent activity, Bristol police:
• On Sept. 28 at 12:45 a.m. were called to the Kountry Trailer Park on a report that a 26-year-old Burlington man was angry and yelling in the roadway. Police said that after they arrived, Timothy J. Williams went onto a property for which he had already been a no-trespass notice. Officers tried to arrest him; a report from Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs said that Williams resisted and a state police trooper shocked him with a taser and other officers tackled Williams.
Once police had Williams in custody, the Bristol Rescue Squad took him to Porter Hospital, where police issued him a citation for unlawful trespass, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Since Williams was on probation at the time of this incident, police also notified his probation officer.
• On Sept. 29 at 11:30 p.m. responded to a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Park Place at the intersection of School Street. A witness told police that a silver or white dodge pickup truck towing a trailer with Robinson Steel Storage Bin printed on the side struck a parked vehicle while backing up on School Street. The vehicle then left the area westbound on West Street without notifying the owner of the damaged vehicle. Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to contact Bristol police at 453-2533.
