Boys soccer: Mt. Abe tops Tigers

ADDISON COUNTY — Mount Abraham edged Middlebury to highlight local high school boys’ soccer in the latter half of last week. In other games, the Eagles won again, the Tigers prevailed at home, Otter Valley won one and lost one, and Vergennes fell to a Division I power.
EAGLES, 1-0
On Wednesday, the Eagles got a goal from Charlie Meyer in the 14th minute and on for a 1-0 win over MUHS for their second one-goal win of the fall over the Tigers. Both goalies, the Eagles’ Nick Szczecinski and the Tigers’ Santiago Fernandez, were credited with five saves.
On Saturday, the Eagles got an overtime goal from William White-Pifer to defeat host Missisquoi, 2-1. Dylan Weaver gave the Eagles the lead, but the T-Birds’ Justus Boudreau scored with eight minutes left in regulation to force overtime.
Szczecinski made four saves for the Eagles, who won their fourth straight and improved to 8-2-2, and Shane Laroche stopped four shots for MVU.
TIGERS
On Friday, Joao Pedro Ribeiro scored in the 63rd-minute minute to provide the game-winning goal and the Tigers edged visiting Milton, 3-2. Duncan McCabe also scored, and George McKeever-Parkes converted a penalty kick added goals for MUHS. Goalie Wilder Perera stopped nine shots as the Tigers improved to 4-7-1 with their third win in four outings. Devon Jackson made six saves for Milton.
OTTERS
On Thursday, the Otters defeated visiting Springfield, 2-0, on their Senior Day. Colton Leno got OV off to a quick start with a goal in the first minute, and Derek Aines scored the second goal with 13 minutes left in the game. OV goalie Colin Nicklaw worked a three-save shutout, and Springfield keeper Andrew Towner made nine saves.
On Saturday, host Hartford pulled away in the second half for a 4-0 win over the Otters. OV dropped to 3-7-3.
COMMODORES
On Saturday, Division I power Rice improved to 10-2 with its second shutout win of the fall over the Commodores. VUHS fell to 2-9 and travels to Mount Abe on Tuesday and hosts MUHS on Friday.
