Field hockey: Otters work OT, Eagles win, Tigers fall

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school field hockey action earlier this week, Otter Valley and Mount Abraham picked up victories, but Middlebury came up shorts.
OTTERS
On Monday, the Otters defeated Woodstock for the second time in three days, this time at OV in overtime, 3-2. Allison Lowell scored all three goals, two with assists from Maia Edmunds, including the game-winner with 3:22 to go in overtime. On the third of three OV penalty corners in OT, Edmunds drove the ball into the circle and it struck a defender. Lowell pounced on the loose ball and drilled it into the lower right corner to lift the Otters to a 6-1-2 record.
Otter Valley got on the board early when Lowell converted an Edmunds pass a minute into the game. Woodstock’s Madison Schulz answered two minutes later. With 15:38 remaining in the first half Lowell gave the Otters the lead with an unassisted strike. Woodstock (4-4-2) struck early in the second half on a Mariah Luce goal.
Woodstock goalie Molly Henne made three saves, and OV’s Myliah McDonough had five, including one just before Lowell’s game-winner. The Otters, who remain in second place in Division II, were set to host Bellows Falls on Wednesday.
EAGLES
On Tuesday, Mount Abraham prevailed at winless Colchester, 3-2, with all the goals scored in the first half. Evan Laurent,Celia Heath and Margaret Moody scored for the Eagles, and Danielle Morse stopped two shots as the Eagles improved to 4-6. Two Laker goalies combined for six saves.
TIGERS
Defending D-I champion Essex (7-1-2) blanked the Tigers on Tuesday, 2-0, as Hornet goalie Mady Corkum turned away all five MUHS shots on goal. Goalie Katie Billings stopped a dozen shots for the 3-7 Tigers.
