Tigers, Eagles win in girls’ soccer

ADDISON COUNTY — The Middlebury and Mount Abraham union high school girls’ soccer team picked up local rival wins over Vergennes in local games late last week, when during other games the Eagles and Tigers picked up road victories.
MUHS OVER VUHS
On Thursday, the Tigers rallied past the visiting Commodores, 3-1. After a scoreless first half, VUHS forward Felicia Armell took advantage of an MUHS miscue four minutes into the second half to break in alone on Tiger second-half goalie Riley Fenster and put the Commodores on top.
Hannah Buttolph knotted the score two minutes later during a scramble in the VUHS box. Another seven minutes later, Kelsey Smith took aPayton Buxton feed at midfield and went into to make it 2-1. With six minutes to go, Helen Anderson added an insurance goal from Andi Boe. Fenster and Molly Campbell each stopped one shot for MUHS, and VUHS goalie Anya Sonwaldt made seven saves.
EAGLES WIN
On Friday, the Eagles edged the Commodores, 2-1, with all three goals coming in the first half. Ernesta McIntosh’s goal in the 32nd minute broke a 1-1 tie and held up as the game-winner. Earlier, Lydia Pitts had given Mount Abe a 1-0 lead, but Ciara McClay had knotted the score shortly afterward.  
Kamille Snell made six saves for as the Eagles improved to 4-6. Sonwaldt stopped nine shots as the Commodores dropped to 3-6-1.
RICE TOPS EAGLES
On Thursday, the Eagles surprised Division I Rice on the road, 4-1, with goals from Pitts, McIntosh,Stacy Sabourin andAbby Mansfield. Sarah Boland scored for the 4-4 Green Knights, who suffered their first loss to a D-II side.
TIGERS TIP T-BIRDS
On Saturday, the Tigers moved over .500 at 5-4-1 by blanking host Missisquoi, 4-0. The MUHS defense did not allow a shot on either Campbell or Fenster, who again shared time in net. Hannah Lawrence scored the Tigers’ second goal in the first half, assisted by Kess Moulton, and added the second of the Tigers’ two second-half goals, with an assist from Smith. Buttolph, from Boe, and Anderson also found the net for MUHS. MVU goalie Jenna Boudreau made 19 saves.
