In high school field hockey: Eagles, Otters and Tigers tally victories

ADDISON COUNTY — In area field hockey play in the latter half of last week, Mount Abraham tipped Middlebury on a soggy Jette Field on Wednesday, the Tigers bounced back to win at home two days later, and Otter Valley picked up a key Division II win on Saturday.
The Eagles also hosted Mount Mansfield on Friday; see story.
EAGLES-TIGERS
On Wednesday, Danielle Bachand picked up a goal and an assist and goalie Danielle Morse worked a three-save shutout as the Eagles blanked the host Tigers, 2-0. Bachand gave the Eagles the lead in the first half and set up Celia Heath’s goal after the break. Mount Abe improved to 3-5 with their first road win of the fall.
In the Tiger goal, Katie Billings stopped four first-half shots, and Sophia Chicoine made one save in the second half.
TIGERS BY TWO
On Friday, the Tigers bounced back to defeat visiting Colchester, 3-1. Makayla Foster scored twice, and center mid Tajah Marsden, who missed the Mount Abe game with an illness, tallied the other goal. Lily Smith and Lauren Bartlett added assists, while Billings and Chicoine teamed up for three saves as the Tigers snapped a six-game slide and improved to 3-6. Goalies Abby Ladd and Madison Martin combined for 16 saves for the winless Lakers.
OTTERS
On Saturday, OV strengthened its hold on second place in D-II by edging then third-place Woodstock, 1-0. Alyssa Falco scored the goal late in the first half, with an assist from Maia Edmunds. Goalie Myliah McDonough made 11 saves in the shutout, and defender Sophie Bloomer made a defensive save as OV improved to 6-1-2.
Woodstock goalie Molly Henne made four saves as her team dropped to 4-3-2 and into fourth place. The teams have a rematch set for OV on Monday afternoon in Brandon in a game rescheduled from this past Wednesday due to rain.
