BRISTOL — The second annual Sukkot on the Farm festival is set for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3 and 4, at New Leaf Organic Farm, 4818 Bristol Road, in Bristol.
The event celebrates abundance and impermanence and helps reconnect people with an agricultural past that is thousands of years old. The festival provides people of all ages a chance to connect with centuries of celebration and pilgrimage that have occurred this time of year. Reaching 20 feet into the sky, like a floating dream catcher, is the main gathering space: the sukkah, the traditional harvest hut of the Jews that draws the eye heavenward and the feet to Vermont’s fertile ground.
The festival kicks off on Saturday with chanting and a community ceremony in the sukkah at 6:30 p.m., followed by a barn dance with the Yiddishkeit Klezmer Ensemble. The festival peaks on Sunday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a variety of farm-based family activities, spiritual teachings, crafts and songs for all ages.
This festival brings people together through ecological, agricultural and spiritual programming offered on a farm, as a way to share cultural heritage and teachings with the wider community. All are invited to cultivate an interfaith community held together with the spirit of gratitude. There is a suggested donation of $5 a day/ $15 a family.
