ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are looking to find out who forced their way into and burglarized four homes in Shoreham and Orwell on Monday during the day.
Trooper Eden Neary reported that the perpetrator(s) used a tool to gain entry to the residences on Brown Road and North Orwell Road in Shoreham and on Daigneault Hill Road in Orwell. Jewelry, medication, a firearm and electronics were reported stolen.
The state police encourage the public to report suspicious vehicles and people. Anyone with information on this crime spree is asked to contact the Vermont State Police at (802) 388-4919. In other recent activity, troopers:
•  On Sept. 21 at approximately 20 minutes past midnight responded to a one-car crash on Hollow Road in Monkton. Police said the driver, identified as 21-year-old Marshall M. Douglas of North Ferrisburgh, was driving a 2005 Toyota westbound on Hollow Road at a high rate of speed, and he lost control of the car while entering a corner. Police said the vehicle spun 180 degrees, left the road and overturned in the ditch. The vehicle came to rest when its trunk struck a large stump in the ditch.
Douglas, who was wearing a seatbelt, was able to exit the vehicle himself and call for help. He was uninjured.
Police gave Douglas a traffic ticket for traveling too fast for conditions, crash resulting. The vehicle was removed by Dupont’s Towing.
•  On Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. stopped a vehicle driven on Interstate 89 in Hartford by Clyde Brooks, 48, of Granville for a minor violation. The trooper cited Brooks for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On Sept. 26 at approximately 4:30 a.m. were investigating an incident on Woodstock Avenue in Rutland Town when they stopped a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Patrick Kane of Brandon. Police reported that Kane exhibited indications of intoxication so they administered standard field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test, which yielded a breath alcohol concentration of 0.098 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08. Police cited Kane for driving under the influence.
•  On Sept. 26 at approximately 4:56 p.m. looked into a report of a two-car crash on Route 100 in Pittsfield. Police said their investigation showed that the 2003 VW Jetta driven by 46-year-old Karen A. McDonnell of Hancock rear-ended a 2004 Honda CRV driven by Carrie Kohl, 34, of Pittsfield. Neither party was injured, however Kohl’s vehicle had to be towed from the scene due to disabling damage. No court action was expected.
