Vergennes Police Log for Sept. 28: City bank reports counterfeit bills
VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Sept. 15 referred to the U.S. Secret Service multiple reports of counterfeit bills being passed in the area.
City police said reports of phony bills included four $100s at the Monkton Road branch of People’s United Bank, a $50 at that bank’s North Maple Street branch, and two $100s at a People’s branch in another community.
Vergennes police said they also made sure high-ranking bank officials were aware of the issue.
In other incidents between Sept. 14 and 20, Vergennes police:
• On Sept. 14 called the animal control officer to pick up two dogs that a Main Street business owner found running loose.
• On Sept. 14 helped a car owner get into a locked vehicle on Armory Lane.
• On Sept. 14 went to Ferrisburgh to help Vermont State Police deal with a family fight.
• On Sept. 14 went to the intersection of River Road in New Haven to help state police deal with a suicidal person in a home.
• On Sept. 15 cited Northlands Job Corps student Antonio Lucky, 21, of New Haven, Conn., for possession of hallucinogens.
• On Sept. 16 took a report of a man sleeping in locations around town, including the city bandstand, and talked to one man who fit the description.
• On Sept. 16 were told that a car had passed a stopped school bus on New Haven Road; police found and warned the driver.
• On Sept. 16 spoke to Vergennes Union High School administrators about a complaint that one student was harassing two others on social media.
• On Sept. 17 were told by a city resident that she was having trouble finding her son; police learned he had been arrested in Massachusetts.
• On Sept. 17 served a relief-from-abuse order to a male Main Street resident.
• On Sept. 17 accepted car keys that had been found and then located their owner.
• On Sept. 17 were told the smell of marijuana had been detected at the rear of a Main Street apartment building, but found nothing.
• On Sept. 18 looked into an allegation of an assault at Northlands and determined no crime had been committed.
• On Sept. 19 were told that a man’s ex-wife had not let him see their son; police tried to contact her and left a message.
• On Sept. 19 checked the welfare of a man’s neighbor, who was concerned because a door had been left open for hours; police found the neighbor to be fine.
• On Sept. 19 checked out a report of a suspicious car on Main Street.
• On Sept. 19 took a report that a Green Street resident’s 2009 green Dodge Journey had been stolen; police reported it stolen when the resident’s ex-girlfriend who has a key to the vehicle denied she had taken it.
• On Sept. 19 investigated a two-car accident on Second Street.
• On Sept. 20 were told a cat had been stolen from a South Water Street home; police determined it was a civil issue among relatives of the cat’s deceased owner.
• On Sept. 20 checked out a report of a South Water Street parking problem, but found no issues when they arrived.
• On Sept. 20 responded to a complaint of an unwanted man in a Walker Avenue apartment, who was gone upon their arrival.
