MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a report of a Mary Hogan Elementary School student allegedly threatening staff with what police described as “an improvised weapon” on Sept. 16.
The issue will be resolved within the school with assistance from the Counseling Service of Addison County, according to police.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Responded, with Middlebury firefighters, to the reported smell of smoke at the state office building off Court Street on Sept. 14.  Police said no fire was found.
•  Investigated a trespassing complaint at a Court Street location on Sept. 14.
•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a drunken man who had fallen down an embankment on High Street on Route 7 North on Sept. 15. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
•  Assisted Vermont State Police with an allegedly suicidal person at a River Road home in New Haven on Sept. 15.
•  Were informed of the theft of an unspecified amount of cash from a Middlebury College dorm room on Sept. 16.
•  Responded to three separate reports of cows on the loose on Route 7 North and Exchange Street on Sept. 16.
•  Cited Michael F. Judy, 23, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, following a traffic stop on Main Street on Sept. 16. Police said Judy declined to submit to an evidentiary breath test.
•  Investigated a car crash at the intersection of Case and East Main streets in East Middlebury on Sept. 17.
•  Served a no-trespass order on Sept. 17 on a woman who was not wanted at a Happy Valley Road residence.
•  Helped resolve a child custody issue involving some local parents on Sept. 17.
•  Cited Louis Paradis, 42, of Middlebury for cultivation of marijuana, after police said they located four plants growing outside a Quarry Road residence on Sept. 17.
•  Responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated driver on Porter Drive on Sept. 18. Police said the driver was in fact not intoxicated.
•  Responded to another report of a possibly impaired driver on Sept. 18, this time in the Seymour Street area. Police could not locate the driver in question.
•  Found a woman sleeping in Court Square at around 2 a.m. on Sept. 18. Police said the woman left the area.
•  Responded to a report that a woman was missing from the Hill House on Route 7 North on Sept. 18. Police said the woman was located and she was safe.
•  Were informed of the theft of debit, credit and EBT cards from a room at the Blue Spruce Motel on Route 7 South on Sept. 19.
•  Investigated a report of an aggressive dog on Charles Avenue on Sept. 19. Police said they found the dog not to be aggressive.
•  Assisted Middlebury College Public Safety in looking for a drunken man who had run away from an officer in the Porter Field Road area on Sept. 20.
•  Assisted at the scene of a traffic accident on Cross Street on Sept. 20. Police said the accident involved a Brandon Area Rescue Squad ambulance that had collided with the center median and signs on Cross Street at the approach to the downtown Middlebury roundabout. Police said the ambulance was en route to Porter Hospital with a patient.
•  Checked on the welfare of a woman who was seen slumped over in a vehicle in The Centre parking lot off Court Street Extension on Sept. 21. Police said the woman was OK and was just tapping into the Wi-Fi service at McDonald’s Restaurant.
