Tiger girls’ soccer nips Eagles, 1-0
ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school girls’ soccer action in the latter half of last week, Otter Valley kept up its winning ways, but other teams all lost close games to tough competition.
On Saturday, the OV girls’ opened what was a successful homecoming for the school by topping visiting Green Mountain Union, 4-2. Olivia Drew scored twice, and Lexi Hedding andAbbie Pinkowski added one apiece. Isabelle Kingsley,Julia Lee and Drew added assists. Goalie Gabby Poalino made 11 saves as the Otters improved to 5-2.
On Saturday, visiting Milton blanked VUHS, 2-0, with a goal in each half. Tatum Shappy scored on a first-half breakaway on a counterattack as the Commodores were pressing, and Brooke Caragher also tallied for the 5-1 Yellowjackets.
Goalie Anya Sonwaldt had eight saves, including one on a penalty kick, for Vergennes (3-3), while Madison North registered three stops for Milton, which also received a save from a fullback on a Kaitlyn Brace bid.
On Wednesday, host Milton edged Mount Abraham, 1-0, on Cait Dabagian’s second-half strike. Milton goalie Madison North made five saves as her team improved to 4-1, while Eagle goalies Zoe Cassels-Brown andKamille Snell combined for five saves as Mount Abe fell to 1-4 heading into a Saturday game at MUHS.
On Wednesday, host Rice (2-1) nipped MUHS, 1-0, on Anna Schibli’s second-half goal. Rice goalie Hannah Miller stopped 13 shots, while Tiger goalie Riley Fenster was credited with 22 saves. MUHS dropped to 1-3-1 entering into Saturday’s game vs. the Eagles.
