OV football pulls out big win over Woodstock
BRANDON — The Otter Valley Union High School football team prevailed in a big Division III clash on Saturday, 35-7 over previously undefeated Woodstock.
At 4-0, the Otters are one of two unbeaten teams left in D-III; U-32 (3-0) is the other. OV is set to travel to U-32 on Oct. 2.
The 3-1 Wasps had played a tougher schedule than OV and had scored 98 points in three games before being held to seven by the Otters.
OV led by 7-0 on Saturday until late in the second quarter. After OV quarterback Carson Leary scored on a 4-yard run at 1:30, he forced a fumble on the following kickoff and at 0:05 he added a score on a 1-yard run to make it 21-0 at the half.
The Wasps scored to open the second half when QB Luck Issa found Daniel Robinson for a 19-yard score, but OV shut the Wasps down the rest of the way and added two more TDs, a Leary pass to Robertas Nielsen late in the third quarter and a Brent Nickerson 59-yard run in the fourth.
Leary carried the ball 26 times for 190 yards and completed three of eight passes for 23 yards. Nickerson added 12 carries for 133 yards and Jove Bautista ran 13 times for 83 yards. Ezra Astbury led the Wasps with 16 carries for 97 yards, but the Otters shut down Wasp leading rusher Bill Wood. Defensively, Will Ross picked off two passes for OV, and Leary and Trevor Peduto each sacked Issa.
OV plays at 1-3 Spaulding on Friday.
