In field hockey, Otters and Eages both tally wins
ADDISON COUNTY — In area high school field hockey play in the latter half of last week, Mount Abraham split two games, including the Eagles’ first win; Otter Valley won big; and Middlebury dropped a pair of games.
EAGLES
On Wednesday, the Eagles broke into the win column by topping visiting Colchester, 3-1. Evan Laurent and Danielle Bachand scored for Mount Abe, and goalies Danielle Morse andSamantha Bruce combined for two saves. Abby Ladd stopped 10 shots for the Lakers.
On Friday, host South Burlington edged the Eagles, 1-0, on a rebound goal early in the second half. Goalie Liz Sargent stopped three shots for the 5-0 Rebels. Morse made nine saves for the 1-4 Eagles.
OTTERS
On Saturday, the Otters cruised past Brattleboro, 5-1, in their homecoming game. They welcomed two injured players to their lineup, Courtney Bushey andSophie Bloomer, and Bushey chipped in a goal. Also scoring were Chelsea Reed,Allison Lowell (twice) andSophie Markowski. Maia Edmunds picked up two assists, and Reed had one. Colonel goalie Olivia Weeks made seven saves and Myliah McDonough stopped 12 shots for the 3-1-1 Otters.
TIGERS
On Wednesday, visiting Burlington got three second-half goals from Fiona McSweeney to rally from a 2-0 deficit and defeat the Tigers. Devin Libby made five saves for the 2-2 Seahorses.
Lauren Bartlett and Mikayla Foster scored for MUHS. Lily Smith andTajah Marsden provided assists. Katie Billings made three saves in the first half, and Sophia Chicoine stopped four shots in the second half.
On Saturday, host Champlain Valley blanked MUHS, 2-0, despite 12 saves from Billings in the Tiger goal. Tashia Pashby-Rockwood made five saves for the 3-1 Redhawks. MUHS dropped to 2-3 with its third straight setback.
