RUTLAND — Scott Stinson of Brandon pleaded guilty on Sept. 15 in Rutland County Superior Court, criminal division, to three counts of promoting a recording of sexual conduct by a child, the Vermont Attorney General’s Office reported late last week.
Stinson was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison, all suspended except for 20 days, and placed on probation for 15 years. While on probation, he will be subject to special conditions of probation designed for sex offenders, according to a press release from the AG’s Office. These include, but are not limited to, requiring him to successfully complete sex offender treatment, limiting his access to children under the age of 16, and limiting his access to the Internet or any device with recording capabilities.
Stinson will also be required to register as a sex offender.
The charges stem from a shared investigation between the Attorney General’s Office, Vermont’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Brandon Police Department, Department of Homeland Security, and the Vermont State Police.
Vermont’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigates cases of child sexual exploitation occurring over the Internet. These investigations include the production and online sharing of child pornography.
This task force also provides forensic examination services, technical assistance, law enforcement training, and public education and outreach. The Attorney General’s Office, U.S. Attorney’s Office, state police and other county and municipal law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies are affiliated with the task force.
