Commodore girls’ soccer win third straight
SWANTON — The Vergennes Union High School girls’ soccer team on Monday picked up its third straight win, 2-0, over host Missisquoi.
VUHS Co-Coach Peter Maneen said the Commodores dominated the first half, putting a dozen shots on the T-Bird goal, but failing to score.
Ciara McKay broke the ice for VUHS about five minutes into the second half, with an assist from Caroline Johnston. Annika Vorsteveld added the insurance goal with about 15 minutes to go, assisted by Felicia Armell.
Anya Sonwalt worked a five-save shutout for the Commodores, who improved to 3-2 and face challenges in the next two games, both at home: Division II title contender Milton visits at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and D-I Rice stops by on Tuesday afternoon.
