In girls’ soccer: Commodores and Otters are both winners

ADDISON COUNTY — In area high school girls’ soccer late last week, Vergennes won, Otter Valley split two games, and Mount Abraham lost another close contest.
COMMODORES
On Saturday, VUHS scored twice in each half to defeat visiting Randolph, 4-1. The Commodores evened their record at 2-2 with the result.
Ciara McClay scored a pair of goals for VUHS, while Kaitlyn Brace andKareena Vorsteveld added a goal apiece and goalie Anya Sonwaldt finished with four saves. AllKiara Nonemacher made 15 saves for the 1-2 Ghosts.
OTTERS
The Otters settled for third place in the annual Black River tournament on Friday and Saturday. In Friday opener, Proctor remained undefeated by topping OV, 3-0. Proctor standout Abbie McKearin moved closer to the state scoring record by tallying all three goals. OV goalie Gabby Poalino made 12 saves. 
In Saturday’s night’s consolation, OV’s Lexi Hedding led her team to an 8-0 win with four goals and an assist, while Poalino worked the 12-save shutout. Also contributing were Olivia Drew (goal and three assists); Isabelle Kingsley,Abbie Pinkowski andEmily Fox (one goal each); and Amy Jones,Julia Lee andJillian Flanders (an assist each).
EAGLES
On Saturday, host South Burlington edged Mount Abe, 2-1. Rebel goalie Kailei Eustis made eight saves as the 1-3 Eagles earned a 9-7 edge in shots on goal in their third one-goal loss of the fall.
Abby Mansfield scored for Mount Abe, with Ernesta McIntosh assisting, and goalie Zoe Cassels-Brown stopped five shots.
