Fair Haven football takes down the Eagles

BRISTOL — Visiting Fair Haven used a big second half to pull away from the Mount Abraham Union High School football team on Saturday and earn a 56-22 Division II football victory. The Slaters, who reached the D-II final a year ago, improved to 2-1.
The Eagle offense showed life and scored all 22 points in the first half. Ryan Paquin rushed for one score and finished with 133 yards rushing on 22 attempts, while quarterback Coleman Russell completed 10 of 15 passes and threw two touchdown passes to Wyatt Gracie, who caught six balls.
But the Eagles could not contain the high-powered Slater attack. Quarterback Ryan Alexander accounted for six touchdowns, three passing and three rushing.
Alexander completed 15 of 24 passing attempts for 204 yards and three TDs, and ran for 149 yards and three scores on 26 attempts.
Running back Jordan Phillips complemented Alexander on the ground, carrying the ball 18 times for 144 yards, while Lucas Czarnecki was Alexander’s most productive target, catching five balls for 103 yards and a pair of TDs.
For the second straight week, the Eagles also surrendered a return touchdown: Czarnecki brought a punt back to the end zone.
The 0-3 Eagles will look to break through this Saturday, when North Country visits at 1 p.m. for another D-II contest.
