Eagle field hockey loses first two
ESSEX — The Mount Abraham Union High School field hockey team opened with a pair of tough road losses against Metro Conference foes.
This past Friday, host Mount Mansfield edged the Eagles, 3-2, in overtime. Allie Biancho’s goal with less than two minutes to go in overtime gave the 1-1 Cougars the victory. MMU goalie Jess Peura made six saves to earn the win.
Hannah Wahl and Jalen Cook tallied for Mount Abe, and goalies Danielle Morse and Samantha Bruce combined for five saves.
On Tuesday, defending Division I champion Essex blanked the Eagles, 3-0, scoring all three goals after the break. Morse and Bruce teamed up for seven stops in the setback, while two Hornet goalies stopped two shots.
The D-II Eagles will look to break through on Friday, when they travel to face the only D-II foe on their schedule, U-32. Their home opener is Wednesday vs. Colchester.
