Refurbished bridge in Lincoln reopens
LINCOLN — Town Highway 1 Bridge 19 located on East River Road in Lincoln opened to all traffic this past Thursday evening at 6:20 p.m. — on schedule. The bridge closed on July 8 to all traffic and was scheduled to remain closed until Aug. 27.
During the closure period, crews dismantled and removed the old bridge and constructed the new bridge using accelerated bridge construction methods. Work to replace the bridge included placing new cast in place subfootings and footings, walls, abutments and precast box beams. New bridge railing and curbing were installed. The roadway approaches were reconstructed and repaved as part of the project as well.
Work will continue on the project for the next few weeks. Crews were scheduled to spray curing water on the deck and curbs until Monday, Aug. 31. Remaining work on the project includes roadway curbing, guardrail installation, saw cut grooving of the deck, two more layers of new pavement, shoulder gravel, asphalt bridge joints, line striping, clean up and punch list items. The contractor will also be replacing a culvert for the town of Lincoln off the south end of the project.
Construction is scheduled to continue through September, however the contractor has until October to complete the project.
While crews work to complete the project, travel will be reduced to one lane over the bridge daily with flaggers assisting in maintaining traffic flow.
