What to expect as city celebrates Vergennes Day

VERGENNES — Motorists looking to drive through the city of Vergennes on Saturday, Aug. 29, should expect some delays due to a road race that will be run in conjunction with Vergennes Day.
The annual Little City 5K and 10K races will start at 9 a.m. on Main Street at the intersection with North Street. Runners and walkers will turn south on South Maple Street.
Traffic will be delayed in both the northbound and southbound lanes from 8:50 a.m. to approximately 9:10 a.m. while the runners/walkers clear Main Street. Participants will be negotiating both courses throughout the side streets south of Main Street in both Vergennes and in Waltham. Green Street from Main Street to School Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during the races.
Both races usually take about one and one half hours to complete. Vergennes and Vermont state police, as well as volunteers from the Vergennes Union High School girls’ soccer team, will be conducting traffic control along the route. Officials ask motorists to plan accordingly on the day of the race and please use caution when passing runners or walkers along the race routes.
