Editorial: Film festival is an opportunity to embrace
Have you bought your tickets to Middlebury’s New Filmmakers’ Festival? If not, you’ll want to reconsider what you have planned for next Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 27-30.
That’s when 90 films — from shorts to documentaries to longer-form fiction and children’s features — will be playing at three Middlebury venues. The festival lasts throughout the day and includes talks by film directors, seminars and workshops on filmmaking, plus a Saturday night party with live music that’s open to all.
Most exciting about this festival is the opportunity to be surprised by new thoughts, new works of art and new talent, and to be part of a community audience that informs and inspires these new filmmakers through our feedback. It’s rare that area residents have such an opportunity to consume, react and help guide the works of new artists to this degree. It’s an opportunity that shouldn’t be disregarded lightly, but rather one to appreciate and embrace.
