Opinion: Bristol should OK new firehouse
We are writing in support of the new Bristol Fire Station and to encourage others in the town of Bristol to support it as well.
In March 2014 the citizens of Bristol voted down a proposal to buy an adjacent house as the first step in expanding the existing fire station on North Street. Since that time, the Bristol Fire Facility Committee, comprised of members of the fire department and community members, has worked hard to determine a location and design for a new fire station to best serve the town’s needs. Working with the selectboard, the committee has demonstrated excellent leadership in guiding this process in a transparent and thoughtful way. In the meantime, the historic station on North Street has been deemed essentially unusable.
The fire department needs a functioning facility. The time has come for the citizens of Bristol to support the bond for a new fire station, one located at the entrance to the village and which provides plenty of room for the needs of the fire department now and in the future.
We urge our fellow citizens of Bristol to join us in voting “Yes” on July 7.
