Mary Hogan pupils run for fun in annual meet
MIDDLEBURY — Mary Hogan Elementary School fifth- and sixth-grade students enjoyed a few hours of running, jumping and throwing — and each other’s company — on June 10, when they visited Middlebury College for the school’s annual track and field meet.
The event, organized by the school’s physical education teachers and run with the help of parent volunteers, offers Mary Hogan’s older students the chance to learn about track and field while competing in a total of 38 events: nine individual events each for fifth- and sixth-grade boys and girls and a 440-yard co-ed relay race for each grade level.
As most or all the students appreciated the sunny outdoors, several came away with handfuls of blue ribbons: fifth-graders Ivy Doran and Cam Castelli won four events each, while 6th-grader C.J. Bryant also won four times and his classmate Sofia Stefani earned three firsts.
