Kit Donnelly’s work is on exhibit in Bristol
BRISTOL — The WalkOver Gallery in Bristol is hosting a solo exhibition of the works of Kit Donnelly just before she moves to another state to be closer to family and to pursue her career in art. On Friday evening, May 29, from 5 until 7 p.m., there will be a reception and celebration of the artist.
Donnelly has worked as an artist in Vermont for nearly 30 years. While raising a family and working a number of jobs, she never stopped painting. The show will reflect that span of time and reveal the spectrum of her work from earlier larger representational pieces through her transition to the world of abstraction in a variety of stages.
She says that as a visual artist, “each day presents new symphonies of light, form and movement. I see colors playing off each other in new and unexpected ways. Subtle gestures manifest themselves … the process of seeing is always the beginning of a new painting.”
In her study of movement, space, perspective and form, the world of nature and emotion are revealed. Bold and dynamic forms are found throughout all her periods. While the genesis admittedly comes from the physical world, she says, “When all the elements of my painting coincide, I can transcend the experience I have had with the physical world and the painting has a life of its own. This is the most honest communication I know.”
In September 2014 Donnelly was awarded a master of fine arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and counts herself fortunate to have been able to attend the residency program in Provincetown, with its rich history of art. She has exhibited in both Boston and Provincetown over the last few years.
It was in May and June of 2004, fully 11 years ago, that the WalkOver Gallery welcomed Donnelly as its first exhibiting artist at the gallery. It is with genuine admiration for her work and continuing development as an artist, that the WalkOver welcomes her back for this vital and splendid exhibition.
The show will be up through Friday, June 12. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The WalkOver Gallery is located at 15 Main St. in Bristol. For more information call (802) 453-3188, ext. 2.
