Tigers girls lacrosse splits two one-goal contests
HINESBURG — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ lacrosse team split two close games late last week and entered the final week of regular season play with an 8-3 record, good for fourth place in the tightly packed Division I standings.
The Tigers were set for a Wednesday home game with rival South Burlington and are scheduled to conclude their regular season at Burlington on Saturday at 11 a.m.; MUHS edged the Seahorses at home, 12-11, earlier this month. The Vermont Principals’ Association will release playoff pairings on Monday.
On Thursday, May 21, the Tigers edged host BFA-St. Albans, 12-11, when late goals from Julia Rosenberg and Emma Donahue erased an 11-10 Comet lead. Katie Holmes led the Tigers with three goals, Donahue and Emily Kiernan scored two apiece, and Satchel McLaughlin, Emma Best, Alexis Ouellette and Andi Boe tossed in a goal apiece. The Comets, who were led by Andi Ester’s four goals, carried an 8-4 record into the final week of play.
On Friday, the Tigers played their fifth one-goal game of the year and third of the week, this time coming up short at Champlain Valley, 10-9. Overall, they are 3-2 in one-goal games. Emma Owens scored four goals for the 6-6 Redhawks, and goalie Bailee Pudvar made eight saves. Kiernan led the Tigers with five goals, Holmes scored twice, and goalie Baily Ryan stopped eight shots.
