Tennis: MUHS boys, OV girls out of playoffs; Tiger girls No. 4
MIDDLEBURY — In high school tennis playoff action, the Middlebury boys and the Otter Valley girls were eliminated on Tuesday in Division I and D-II, respectively.
The MUHS girls finished at 11-3 and drew the No. 4 seed in D-I. They will entertain No. 13 North Country (4-8) on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. The Tiger girls defeated the Falcons twice this spring, both on May 15, by 5-1 scores at home.
If the Tigers do so again on Thursday, they will host a quarterfinal match on Saturday at 10 a.m. vs. either No. 5 Essex (8-4) or No. 12 BFA-St. Albans (5-8), who were set to play on Wednesday. MUHS did not face Essex this spring, but twice edged the Comets by 4-3 counts.
TIGER BOYS
On Tuesday, visiting No. 9 seed Champlain Valley (10-4) defeated the Tiger boys, 7-0. MUHS finished its season at 7-4 and saw a five-match winning streak conclude.
• At No. 1 singles, George Lomas, CVU, defeated Bo Tran, M, 6-1, 6-1.
• At No. 2 singles, Ivan llona, CVU, defeated Bob Avery, M, 7-5, 6-1.
• At No. 3 singles, Nathan Comai, CVU, defeated Nick Holmes, M, 6-4, 6-3.
• At No. 4 singles, Ethan Leonard, CVU, defeated Jerald Staret, M, 6-1, 6-1.
• At No. 5 singles, Justin Hameline, CVU, defeated Jon Fitzcharles, M, 7-5, 6-4.
• At No. 1 doubles, David Huber/Stephen Asch, CVU, defeated Ben Silver/Eric Podraza, M, 6-2, 6-2.
• At No. 2 doubles, Jack Zullo/Will Walker, CVU, defeated Owen Hammel/Max Mayone, M, 6-2, 6-3.
OV GIRLS
On Tuesday, host No. 8 U-32 defeated No. 9 OV, 6-1. The Raiders improved to 3-12, while OV finished at 0-13.
• At No. 1 singles, Signe Goddard, U-32, defeated Sarah Young, OV, 6-0, 6-0.
• At No. 2 singles, Nell Peterson, U-32, defeated Jonna Keith, OV, 6-0, 6-1.
• At No. 3 singles, Alex Hepp, U-32, defeated Sophie Wood, OV 6-0, 6-3.
• At No. 4 singles, Brigid Enright, OV, defeated Abby Brewer, U-32, 6-4, 7-5.
• At No. 5 singles, OV defaulted.
• At No. 1 doubles, Liza Hickory/Daiana Al Saadi, U-32, defeated Kate Panton/Brit Danforth, OV, 6-0, 6-0.
• At No. 2 doubles, OV defaulted.
